David and Goliath
In the classic story of Good vs evil we know as “David and Goliath“, David defeated the enemy (Goliath) in the Spiritual Realm first, by using the Name of the Lord. (The Lord’s Name is the “Word of God” – Revelation 19:13) Then, he defeated Goliath in the natural realm (the world).
Before you go to battle, put on the whole armor of God:
Ephesians 6:13-18
13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; 18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints—
The “Whole Armor of God” includes Spiritual weapons of warfare, not physical. We take victory in the natural world by first winning in the Spiritual.
Victory is assured when we Follow these 2 steps:
1) First Defeat the Enemy in the Spiritual Realm
2) Then Victory is Assured in the Natural Realm (the World)
satan is a liar and all he can do is COPY the Lord.
In 1 Samuel 17:4-7 notice that Goliath has armor and weapons that COPY what the Lord has given us as listed in the “Whole Armor of God” verses of Ephesians 6:13-18 (see above).
1 Samuel 17:4-7
4 And a champion went out from the camp of the Philistines, named Goliath, from Gath, whose height was six cubits and a span. 5 He had a bronze helmet on his head, and he was armed with a coat of mail, and the weight of the coat was five thousand shekels of bronze. 6 And he had bronze armor on his legs and a bronze javelin between his shoulders. 7 Now the staff of his spear was like a weaver’s beam, and his iron spearhead weighed six hundred shekels; and a shield-bearer went before him.
Goliath was Missing the Most Important Piece of Armor!
Compared to the “Whole Armor of God” (listed in Ephesians 6:13-18), what was Goliath missing?
The belt of Truth
David challenged Goliath in the one area where Goliath was NOT protected: The belt of Truth. (See Samuel 17:45 below) What is “Truth”? His Word is Truth (Psalm 119:160 & John 17:17) The belt of Truth is the first item listed because it is by far the most important!

45 Then David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.
- First Defeat the Enemy in the Spiritual Realm
- Then Victory is Assured in the Natural Realm (the World)
David defeated the enemy (Goliath) in the Spiritual Realm first, by using the Name of the Lord. Then, he defeated Goliath in the natural realm.
- David said to Goliath “I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.”
- Then David used his sling and Sent that Rock, and God did His part by having it hit Goliath right in the temple which brought the giant down. (In the Bible, the “Rock” is symbolic of the Lord… who IS the Word of God.)
ACTION STEP:
To win our battles, we need to do the same thing. What happens in the physical realm is a manifestation of the Spiritual Realm. The Lord has given us Spiritual weapons of warfare that give us victory over the Spiritual Realm which will then affect the physical realm (the world).
So, stop focusing on what is happening in the natural realm in our lives and start winning in the Spiritual Realm so that the victory comes into our lives and the world around us. As it says in Zechariah 4:6 , the Battle is won with His Spirit.
Zechariah 4:6
6 So he answered and said to me:
“This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel:
‘Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’
Says the Lord of hosts.
Let’s get out there and let’s win this battle!
